GENERAL INFORMATION
Physics
department was established in 1958 internally to Arts
and Sciences Faculty as Mathematics-Physics department.
In 1968, while Science Faculty was separated from the
Arts and Sciences Faculty, Physics and Mathematics
departments were also became separate departments.
The undergraduate education was first
begun in 1976 and graduate programs begun in 1984.
Today,
students can make practice of important topics in
physics, theoretically and experimentally. Experimental
physics is conducted in seven different laboratories
such as Atomic and Molecular Physics, Electronics,
Vibrations and waves. In Physics Department, Atomic
and Molecular, and Solid State Physics research groups
maintain their studies supplying a support from State
Planning Organization (DPT) and University Research
Fund. Physics department published 62 papers within the
scope of Science Citation Index in 2002 in parallel to
giving high quality education to 525 undergraduate
students and quite a number of M.Sc. and Ph.D. students
every year. Last decade, an important part of the
scientific publications in the university are made by
Physics department and thus a publication to every
professor per year is around two.
Purpose of
the undergraduate programs is to give fundamental
knowledge needed in physics discipline and is to give
researchers an appropriate skill to bring up researchers
and teachers for the country.
Our graduated
students can find jobs in universities, research
institution, government sectors and private enterprises. |
